How to practise with a metronome
- Set your tempo with the slider, the +/− nudges, or by tapping along.
- Pick the time signature (beats per bar) — the first beat of every bar is accented.
- Add subdivisions (eighths, triplets, sixteenths) when you're working on tighter rhythms.
- Practise slower than you think you need — clean at 80% speed beats sloppy at 100%.
Frequently asked questions
Is this metronome accurate?
Yes — clicks are scheduled ahead of time on the Web Audio clock (the same sample-accurate clock DAWs use in the browser), not with JavaScript timers, so the tempo doesn't drift even when the page is busy.
Can it do triplets and sixteenths?
Yes — set the subdivision to eighths, triplets or sixteenths and quieter ticks fill in between the main beats. The downbeat of every bar stays accented.
How do I find the tempo of a song I'm hearing?
Tap the Tap button along with the music — after a few taps the BPM locks in. For a recorded file, the Key & BPM Finder detects it automatically.
Does it work with the screen off?
On phones, browsers pause audio when the tab is fully backgrounded, so keep the tab visible while practising. On desktop it keeps clicking while you use other apps.
