How to Get Beat Placements: A Realistic Playbook

By HOPEX · Updated July 2026

Placements come from relationships and volume, not one magic email. Here's the playbook working producers actually run — unglamorous, repeatable, effective.

Pick your lane and targets

List 20 artists one or two tiers above you whose sound you genuinely fit (not the top 10 superstars). Rising artists respond; stars have gatekeepers. Study each one's last 3 projects before sending anything.

Relationships beat blasts

Engage before you pitch: real comments, sharing their work, being present in their scene's spaces (Discords, sessions, open mics). A beat from a familiar name gets opened; producer #4,000 in the DMs doesn't.

The side doors

Engineers, managers and A&Rs eat placements for breakfast: they choose beats in the room. Networking with the team (and with bigger producers who need loops — the loop-maker path splits credit but builds catalog fast) outperforms artist DMs 10:1.

Package per artist

Send 3–5 beats tailored to the specific artist, named clearly with BPM/key, untagged for known contacts (tagged for cold), streaming links not attachments. One personal line about why these fit THEM — provably not a blast.

Follow-up as a system

Track sends in a sheet. One follow-up after ~2 weeks, then move on; re-pitch that contact next month with new heat. Consistency across 6 months is the actual differentiator — most producers quit after 20 unanswered messages, right before the math starts working.

Frequently asked questions

How many beats should I send at once?

3–5 max, tailored. Twenty beats is a chore; three great ones fit for the artist is a pitch.

Should I send tagged or untagged beats?

Tagged for strangers, untagged for trusted relationships. Watermark culture is understood — nobody serious is offended.

Do placement 'opportunities' that charge fees work?

Paying to submit is almost always a losing trade. Invest the same money in sessions, engineers' time, or better targeting.
